On the last
day of the 1998 Anchor House Ride for Runaways, one of the
participants’ 15-year-old Cory Golis of Hopewell Township, was
struck and tragically killed by a car.
After his death,
Cory’s family in conjunction with Anchor House, created a
scholarship fund in Cory’s name, the Cory Golis / Anchor House
Foundation Scholarship Fund. The goal is to provide tuition
assistance to deserving high school students or recent high
school graduates in support of their higher education needs,
whether it is college, trade, or technical school.
In January 1999, the Anchor House Ride for Runaways Planning
Committee authorized a committee of five individuals to plan and
coordinate the first annual “Cory’s Ride”. The purpose of the
Ride was not only to raise money for the Scholarship Fund, but
to continue to honor Cory’s memory. The ride continues to be a
fantastic success in both accounts. |
